Nirvana Loutan

Nirvana obtained a BSc Civil Engineering degree from the University of Durban Westville in 2002 and is a registered engineer with ECSA.

Nirvana began her career with Stewart Scott International. She moved on to L&S Consulting Engineers in Gauteng where she spent six years developing her interest in materials and pavement engineering, particularly structural layer design.

Eyethu Engineers has been her home for the past 10 years, with her aptitude for analysis and strategic thinking directing her growth into the role of executive leading the Durban head office team.Nirvana’s experience encompasses the design of asphalt pavement structures across all types of roads. She describes the highlight as her exposure to the design development of the National Route 3 corridor upgrade.

SEALS FOCUS AREA

Nteseng Ramoraswi

Nteseng completed her BSc Chemistry Honours degree at the University of Limpopo in 2012 and her MSc Chemistry at the University of KwaZulu-Natal KZN in 2014. Her Master’s degree focused on the synthesis of porous nanomaterials for photocatalytic applications.

Nteseng’s science qualifications are supported by a Middle Management Development Programme from the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS).

She is Technical Manager at COLAS South Africa in Cape Town. Before joining COLAS in 2020, she spent five years with Industrial Oleo chemical Products (AECI Chemicals) in Durban as a Research and Development Chemist followed by Product Development Manager.

During her academic studies she served as a Laboratory Assistant at the University of KZN and Chemistry Tutor at the University of Limpopo.

Nteseng has strong experience in academic editing and proofreading, technical support, customer service, marketing, product development, quality control, management and team building.

Asphalt Focus Area

Joanne Muller

Joanne completed her Bachelor and Honours Degrees in Civil Engineering, followed in 2015 by her Master’s in Engineering Management, at the University of Johannesburg. She is an ECSA registered Candidate Engineer.

She began her career with AECI Much Asphalt in 2008 as a part-time Trainee, followed by two years as a Graduate Trainee in the company’s Gauteng Regional Laboratory. In 2013 Joanne was promoted to Quality Assurance Supervisor at the Benoni plant and in 2016 to Regional Laboratory Manager. In this role she strives to improve quality and cost metrics to meet strategic objectives and customer requirements.

Joanne’s experience in asphalt manufacturing, testing and design, together with her zest for problem solving, is also put to good use on working groups reviewing SANS standard test methods, Sabita manuals and protocols for industry.

Binders Focus Area

Keleabetswe Makamu

Kele is a Civil Engineering Technologist with more than a decade of experience in road material testing and management of civil engineering materials laboratories. She completed her B-Tech degree in Transportation Engineering at Tshwane University of Technology in 2015.

She is currently Laboratory and Quality Manager at the CSIR’s Advanced Material Testing Laboratory.

Kele’s career started in 2004 at the Johannesburg Roads Agency Laboratory where she was a Soils and Concrete Officer. From there she moved to Aurecon for four years as an Associate Laboratory Supervisor. In 2010 she joined the CSIR as a Lab Supervisor and in 2015 she returned to the JRA as Laboratory and Technical Services Manager.

Prior to her current role she worked for three years at Specialised Road Technologies as an Operational Executive.

ADMINISTRATION

Nathisha Gengayah

Nathisha has a Bachelor of Technology in Transportation from the Durban University of Technology and is a civil engineering technologist specializing in pavement rehabilitation. She has worked for Naidu Consulting as a Pavement Design Engineer for more than five years, based in the Durban head office.

Her experience includes both light and heavy rehabilitation projects for various clients such as the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transportation and SANRAL. In addition to her career, Nathisha is passionate about job creation through labour intensive works and the empowerment of women in the civil engineering sector.

ASPHALT FOCUS AREA SUPPORT

Tafadzwa Mafuma

Tafadzwa (Taffy) completed her BSc in Civil Engineering at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in 2013 and is currently working towards her M.Eng. in Pavement Engineering at Stellenbosch University.

She is Technical Manager for the Northern Region of AECI Much Asphalt and also has experience on the contracting side of the industry, having played a role in rehabilitation projects involving BSMs, asphalt and seal works in different parts of South Africa.

Taffy aspires to be a well-seasoned pavement engineer and to get her professional registration in the near future.

SUSANNA ZAMMATARO IS OUR KEYNOTE SPEAKER

We are proud to welcome Susanna Zammataro, a world renowned practitioner and leader in our industry, as the keynote speaker at SATBinderrr 2021.

Susanna is Director General of the International Road Federation (IRF) in Geneva, Switzerland. She is responsible for developing and implementing strategic plans for the organization.

Named as one of the 40 Most Remarkable Women in Transport by the Transformative Urban Mobility Initiative (TUMI), Susanna is an untiring advocate for road safety. She is a member of the Advisory Board of the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) High Level Panel on Road Safety. She has also served since 2012 as Chairperson of the “Safer Roads and Mobility” Pillar of the United Nations Road Safety Collaboration Group (UNRSC).

Susanna has been involved since its inception in the Sustainable Mobility for All (SuM4All) an initiative led by the World Bank that brings around the table 55 top stakeholders from the transport sector. She has served as a Steering Committee Member and currently co-leads the Working Group on Data Sharing.

Established in 1948, the IRF is a membership-based organisation, representing leading corporate and institutional players drawn from the road and mobility sectors worldwide. Its mission is to promote the development of roads and road networks that enable access and sustainable mobility for all (www.irfnet.ch).
