Routes to SAT Membership

SAT Membership Categories

 

Southern African practitioners in all aspects of the asphalt sector are encouraged to become members of SAT. Members are categorised according to age and experience as Student Member, Associate, Member (MSAT) or Retired Member. Senior members may be promoted to the level of Fellows of the Society and Honorary members are appointed at the discretion of the National Council.

 

STUDENT MEMBERNo joining Fee
R140/year
  • TO APPLY YOU MUST:

    • Be at least 16 years old at time of joining SAT;
    • Be a bona fide, registered full time student (undergraduate or post-graduate) at an approved higher educational institution.
    • Your course content must relate to pavement and/or bituminous materials.
    • No Joining fee for Students.

    Fees now include VAT.

ASSOCIATE MEMBERONCE OFF JOINING FEE: R220
R620/year
  • TO APPLY YOU MUST:

    • Be at least 18 years old at the time of application;
    • At least 2 years’ experience and be employed in a capacity associated with asphalt technology;
    • Or be a bona fide, registered student at an approved educational institution;
    • Or have an educational qualification approved by Council.

    Fees now include VAT.

MSAT
MEMBEROnce off joining fee: R220
R620/year
  • TO APPLY YOU MUST HAVE:

    • A tertiary educational qualification approved by Council;
    • At least 5 years of experience in technologies associated with asphalt;
    • Or gained an acceptable degree of experience and expertise in asphalt technology in the opinion of Council.

    Fees now include VAT.

Senior members may be promoted to the level of Fellows of the Society and Honorary members are appointed at the discretion of the National Council by the following criteria:

Fellow

To be appointed a Fellow of SAT by Council, you must:

  • Have been a member in good standing for at least 10 years, unless otherwise agreed by Council and ratified by the members;
  • Have at least 15 years of experience in technologies associated with asphalt or have acquired sufficient knowledge and a position of responsibility in the asphalt industry, in the opinion of Council;
  • Have made a significant contribution to both SAT and the asphalt industry as a whole, in the opinion of Council;
  • Be well respected by your peers and have a high profile in the asphalt industry.

 

Honorary Member

Honorary Membership can be conferred on individuals of eminence or distinction as determined by Council.

Retired Member

A Retired Member is a member in good standing who has reached an age of at least 60 and has retired from permanent employment.
