Understanding and the correct placement of bond coats is important for interlayer bonding and essential for long-lived road pavements. The aim is to achieve three-dimensional bonding that stops independent layer movement, including: pushing of the upper layer over the lower layer; slippage of the layers over each other; shape distortion of the upper layer compared to the lower layer (G Schofield, REA 2022).
